New Zealand has moral obligation to use water

One of the Government’s development strategies is to develop irrigation schemes to increase agricultural production. In considering development a balance has to be met between commercial interests and conservation and recreational values. In the near future we may have to consider a third pressure on our water resource.

New Zealand, unlike many countries is blessed with an abundance of water, and all that is needed for efficient agricultural production. In a world that is short of food and where that shortage is predicted to get worse we need to be mindful that countries with food shortages and limited ability to produce it will see us restricting food production so that we can enjoy the luxuries of jet boating and recreational fishing.
In a hungry world taking over New Zealand would be an easy way to for a starving country to get a free lunch.
